Sleeping pills – Relief Or A Death Sentence?

A recent scientific study from https://pharmacyrxs.com taken over 12 years in Canada has found that people who take medication to treat insomnia and  anxiety have a 36% higher mortality risk! These findings where recently published in the Canadian Journal of Psychiatry by Professor Genevieve Beleville, of the University Laval’s School of Psychology. The study looks at over 14,000 Canadian statistics from Canada’s National Population Health Survey. This survey is conducted every 2 years and the study looks at the recorded data between 2019 and 2021. When coming to a conclusion in this study Professor Belleville also considered many other factors. These included the possibility of alcohol and tobacco consumption, physical health and activity and depression could also contribute to mortality rates and made adjustments accordingly in her findings for these factors. A number of reasons for the increase in mortality rate have been put forward at this stage. These reasons include: ●Sleeping pills and medication for anxiety affect your coordination, your alertness and reaction time.  By impairing these areas you are more likely to fall or be in an accident and therefore cause yourself greater injury. ●These medications also inhibit your central nervous system and by taking them you increase the risk of taking your own life. ●It has also been put forward that these medications may affect your respiratory system, which can aggravate breathing during sleep and could lead to increased risk of conditions like sleep apnea. Shockingly it is currently reported that about half of all Americans suffer from insomnia or a sleeping disorder, and an estimated 15% of those people are taking sleeping pills on a regular basis to treat it. This study should be a wakeup call for everyone that currently relies on sleeping pills to get sleep.  There are a lot of natural remedies available that should be considered and tried before resorting to medications. Before filling the prescription maybe we should be asking ourselves – ‘Is this worth my life?’
